Ganguly: Best Indian Captain

The recently concluded Ind-Pak series Pakraman II, has raised many issues.Reason for debilitating performance, failure of dream batting line up, pitch preparation, crowd behavior, selection of venues and so on. The most highlighted issue is Ganguly's captaincy.

Not a day passes without the mentioning of Ganguly, about his form and captaincy in print and electronic media. Ex-cricketers and some experts have their share of opinions and a piece of advice for sourav to regain his form. The cricketing record of some of the experts give little credibility to thier opinions. Sachin in his interview to The Hindu has rightly said about the opinions given by some ex-cricketers.

Many say Ganguly has lost his form both with the willow and as a captain. A reminder to everybody.....form is temporary, class is permanent. Ganguly is a class player, he will regain his form,no doubt, its only a matter of time.

As far as his captaincy is concerned,i still rate him as one of the best captain and i could not see Dravid or anybody in the current team as his replacement.

I would like to mention an incident that happened during the second one-dayer at Vizag.

Pakistan were 45 for no loss, openers Butt and Kamran were beltering the Indian seam attack. Kamran Akmal slashed a ball to square leg, the ball flew like a tracer bullet to Ganguly, he could not latch on to it, catch was dropped. The next ball from Nehra was similar to the previuos one and Akmal repeated the same shot and was caught.

The score board read, Akmal C Sehwag B Nehra 18.
Nothing wroung, Indians got the neccessary break through and they went on to win the match.

What is that one thing that is not there in the score card? Ganguly has moved himself out of the square leg position and asked the best man, Sehwag to stand in that position. I think thats leadership. To me a leader is one who finds the best man to do a job, when he is not capable of doing.

This is one such incident where he has put the team interest ahead of proving his own capability and skills. I think thats what takes him a cut above the rest.

An invention to make my Mom happy

My mother had tried innumerable ways to wake me up in the morning. She had bought all kinds of alarms...different sounds, sometimes really irritating ones, but she was always on the losing end. She gave up in the end.

When i was doing my PGDM, i used cell phone alarm, but always used the other convenient feature "Snooze"......neither technology nor human efforts had succeded in waking me.

I am afraid this success is coming to an end, thanks to Gauri Nanda, a 25-year-old Massachusetts Institute of Technology student.

She has designed a clock that falls to the floor and rolls away on the first push of the snooze button. So the person has to get up to switch off the alarm.
